Our approach on all projects, both large and small, is to focus on client needs and resources every bit as much as designs and materials. Communication is the centerpiece of our project approach—we are committed to an open, collaborative exchange of ideas with all team members including the owner, project architect, consultants and subcontractors. Our ability to successfully manage a project centers around our understanding of the big picture and details of a project, managing that information effectively and cultivating relationships that create a professional, quality environment.
Over three-fourths of Brown Construction’s projects are design-assist, negotiated contracts, where we are heavily involved in the design and preconstruction phases of the project. We are highly experienced in working collaboratively with the owner and design team to identify opportunities for cost savings, always mindful of the priorities and goals of the owner and facility. On projects where the design is fairly well developed, we work diligently to acquaint ourselves with all aspects of the project to date, including meetings with the owner, architect, engineers and any other consultants. Our ability to provide exceptional preconstruction and construction services hinges on that critical foundation of information.
We take tremendous pride in our cost estimating. Our team of highly experienced estimators monitors costs daily—they keep on top of material price fluctuations, changes in labor pricing and proactively pursue information on alternative products and materials for our clients. We understand that our clients hire us for preconstruction services with the primary intent of maximizing their project budget. We focus on understanding the owner’s vision for the project, and work creatively with the design team to minimize costs and maximize value, while balancing the aesthetic needs and meeting the facility’s functional requirements.
