“Don’t let the safest day on your job site be the day after an accident. The key is to be prepared and educated on risks and prevention at all times. I give people the information they need to get home safe each day and that’s what drives me to excel at my job.”
Phil DeFazio joined Brown Construction in 2008 and has served in a wide range of roles—from project management in the metal fabrication department to equipment management and field supervision. Today, as Safety Officer, Phil leads the company’s safety program with unwavering commitment and integrity. Under his leadership, Brown’s safety culture has transformed from strong to industry-leading, thanks to elevated standards, robust training, and hands-on oversight across every job site.
With a deep understanding of OSHA regulations and field operations, Phil brings clarity, consistency, and accountability to the safety process. He conducts regular site inspections, collaborates closely with project teams, and sets a high bar through proactive communication and real-time training. Known for his thorough, by-the-book approach and constructive leadership style, Phil has earned the trust and respect of crews across the company. For him, safety is not just a requirement—it’s a responsibility to protect people and ensure every worker goes home safe, every day.
Phil is an active member of National Contractors Insurance Ltd. (NCI) and the National Safety Council (NSC). Each year, he donates his time to the Construction Industry Education Foundation (CIEF), providing safety training to the Winters High School Design-Build Competition team and serving as a safety monitor throughout the three-day event. He also returns to Winters High annually to offer career guidance to students exploring opportunities in construction and the trades, helping inspire the next generation of young builders.
