1964

Brown Construction is founded by William (Bill) Brown in Sacramento, CA, primarily constructing single-family homes in Northern California.

1968

Brown Construction moved to Davis, CA, where many of the company's projects were located.

1971

Brown Construction is officially incorporated in the State of California.

1976

Brown Construction, Inc. becomes very active in the federal Farm Home funding program through USDA building vital affordable apartments for farmworkers in rural communities throughout California. Bill Brown owned and managed many of these communities for several decades to come.

1988

Ron Brown, Bill’s son, joins Brown Construction, Inc. after spending the early years of his career at a large, national commercial contractor. Ron and Bill expand Brown’s business into building larger commercial and multifamily projects.

1989

Liz McCapes joins Brown Construction, Inc.

1993

Brown Construction, Inc. moves the office to West Sacramento to be closer to their Sacramento-area client base.

1997

Matt DeFazio joins Brown Construction, Inc. as a project manager, focusing on commercial, industrial, and academic projects.

2002

Bill retires and Ron becomes president & CEO.

2003

Brown Construction, Inc. launches the Build It Forward program with the construction of The Pence Gallery in Davis. Build It Forward serves as the company’s philanthropic initiative, offering construction services or waiving fees for community-based projects in the areas where the company operates.

2007

Liz and Matt become minority shareholders in Brown Construction, Inc.

2013

Brown Construction, Inc. signs its first $100 million+ contract for Shea Properties’ Ascent Apartments in San Jose, CA, marking a milestone in the growing capacity of the company.

2014

Brown Construction, Inc. celebrates 50 years in business with an event at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, featuring employees, subcontractors, clients, and industry peers.

2016

Brown Construction, Inc. makes our first appearance on the Engineering News Record Top 400 list as one of the country’s 400 largest general contractors, at #338.

2020

Brown Construction, Inc. is ranked the 4th largest general contractor in the Greater Sacramento Area.

2024

Ron T. Brown announces Brown Construction, Inc. is now 100% employee owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

2024

Brown Construction, Inc. begins construction of their new mid-rise headquarters in West Sacramento along the Sacramento River.
